Process Paper
Following the theme of "Rights and Responsibilities in History" and our interest in gender equality, we chose the topic of Women's Suffrage. Our past history classes have touched on the topic, going over the women's marches and protests, which spiked our interest in voting rights for women. After a few books and online databases, we found out that the women's suffrage movement was a remarkable time in history; therefore, we were determined to do further research.
Our research consisted of many visits to our school library which provided us with reliable sources of information such as: online databases and endless books. We found multiple quality pictures of the women's suffrage movement on these databases which gave us a visual understanding of our topic. We added our favorite sources to the online bibliography organizer, NoodleTools.
Creating a group website seemed to be the most desirable presentation category because there was no printing, it could be easily and neatly organized, and it could be edited anywhere. Our final decision was between a group exhibit and a group website, we agreed that the exhibit could only be one place at a time, and there was the potential of the exhibit being damaged; and the website was much more efficient. The first step we took in the creation of our website was the outline of our site. After the outline was formed, we labeled each page/tab on the website. From there, the necessary information and pictures were added to the site. We added pictures of the suffragettes involved in the movement, facts on the 19th amendment, and background information on the women's suffrage movement. When the information was added to the unfinished website, we changed font colors and added headers to make the site more appealing. After adding finishing touches, our project was neat, organized, and easy to navigate.
The topic of women's suffrage directly relates to the theme of Rights and Responsibilities in history. The right to vote was not given to the American women, they earned it by fulfilling their responsibilities of proving that females and males are equal. After over 70 years of determination, American women had the right to vote. In 1920, almost a century of protests, jail time, and sacrifice had finally ended; the women of America officially gained national suffrage when the 19th amendment was established.
